Animation / VFX / Virtual Production

Let small and mid-sized teams see performances anytime

Semcam Live serves animation, games, VFX, virtual production, and digital character creation by combining edge AI markerless human capture, Goku optical rigid-body tracking, HPE high-precision processing, and downstream software interfaces into one lightweight production pipeline.

Core Value

Markerless mocap and real-time production systems across the industry point to a clear trend: creative teams want to see character motion during early ideation, previs, and on-set work, instead of waiting until performers wear mocap suits, markers are applied, and a mocap stage is booked before they know whether a performance works. Large stages still matter, but for small and mid-sized production teams, game teams, short-form content teams, and virtual production teams, stage scheduling, talent coordination, technical maintenance, and budget all slow iteration. Semcam Live turns motion capture from “book an expensive shoot” into “an always-available creative tool”: performers act without suits or markers, directors and animators see character results on site, props, weapons, cameras, controllers, and other rigid objects are synchronously tracked by Goku, and key shots can be refined with HPE high-precision processing.

Application Scenarios

01

Character Animation and Motion Previs

Animators, directors, and action directors can capture performer motion during rehearsal, review character rhythm, center of mass, blocking, and emotional expression on site, and make creative decisions earlier.

02

Game Actions and Move Design

For combat moves, skills, NPC behavior, cutscenes, and multiplayer interaction prototypes. Teams can try, record, and revise motion frequently without entering a full stage-shoot workflow every time.

03

Virtual Production and Real-Time Preview

Send performer motion into UE/Unity in real time with virtual sets, virtual cameras, and character assets so directors can judge shots, composition, pacing, and performance relationships on site.

04

Props, Weapons, and Camera Gear

Goku synchronously tracks swords, firearms, canes, rackets, controllers, cameras, stabilizers, and other rigid objects so human performance and prop state share one coordinate system.

05

In-House Mocap for Small Teams

Fixed PoE cameras, simplified calibration, and a local data chain make it easier for small studios, game teams, schools, and content teams to own their own motion capture capability.

06

Post-Capture Refinement for Key Shots

Real-time preview supports fast decisions, while HPE high-precision processing refines key shots and complex actions after capture, letting lightweight capture and high-quality delivery coexist in one workflow.

AI Markerless and Optical Rigid-Body Fusion Workflow

01

Performers Need No Suits or Markers

Semcam Live captures human motion with fixed edge AI cameras, reducing performer preparation time so actors can enter character more naturally and creative teams can start auditions and previs faster.

02

Optical Tracking for Props

Goku tracks props, weapons, camera gear, controllers, interactive devices, and other rigid objects, solving the difficulty pure markerless human capture has in expressing stable object poses.

03

See Character Results Live On Site

120fps motion output and latency below 0.1 seconds can feed real-time engines, letting directors, animators, and clients see driven character results on site and reducing rework after capture.

04

Complete Downstream Software Interfaces

Supports Unreal Engine, Unity, Live Link, FBX, BVH, Blender, Maya, MotionBuilder, C++, Python, and related workflows, making it easier to connect existing rigs, retargeting, and animation cleanup pipelines.

05

Lighter Calibration and Capture

Fixed camera arrays and local Active Center management lower setup friction, helping teams complete camera management, joint calibration, performer capture, prop tracking, and data export faster.

06

Easier Technical Maintenance

Edge-side processing handles complex image features while the central system receives structured data and reconstructs motion, reducing massive video-stream transmission pressure and making a long-term mocap space easier for small teams to maintain.

Relationship with Traditional Mocap Stages

Traditional optical mocap stages remain important infrastructure for high-end film, games, and virtual production, especially when a project tightly controls space, performers, props, and shooting rhythm. But they often mean booking stage time, coordinating performers, preparing suits and markers, waiting for technical setup, and then handing data to postproduction. Semcam Live is better suited as a team-owned permanent mocap capability: teams can try actions, block shots, validate characters, and build motion libraries every day, then move into heavier production only when premium stage capture or final data refinement is needed.

Why AI + Optical Fusion Matters

Pure AI markerless capture is good for fast human motion, but props, weapons, cameras, controllers, and interactive objects need more stable rigid-body poses. Pure optical capture is good for high-precision object tracking, but if every performer relies on suits, markers, or marker sets, preparation and maintenance costs rise. Semcam Live + Goku divide the work: bodies are captured by AI markerless cameras, key objects are tracked as optical rigid bodies, and both share one coordinate system and timeline.

A Data Chain from Previs to Delivery

In early creative stages, real-time markerless capture helps teams see character motion quickly. During rehearsal and shooting, Goku synchronously records props and device poses. For key shots, HPE high-precision processing improves motion data quality. At delivery, FBX, BVH, Live Link, UE, Unity, Blender, Maya, MotionBuilder, C++, Python, and related interfaces carry data into downstream production.

FAQ

FAQ

ProductsIndustries

What is Semcam Live?

Semcam Live is an edge computing AI markerless motion capture system. Target detection, 2D keypoints, ReID, tracking, segmentation, cropping and confidence calculation are completed on the camera side, and Active Center locally completes cross-camera matching, triangulation, 3D keypoints, body rig solving, IK, filtering, retargeting and exporting.

IndustriesWorkflow

Does body capture require wearable equipment or patches?

Human motion capture does not require motion capture suits, inertial sensors or reflective markers. If your project requires tracking rigid body objects, such as tools, props, robot ends, handles, or training equipment, you can use Goku for 6DoF rigid body tracking.

ProductsIndustriesWorkflow

When should I use real-time capture versus HPE?

The live link delivers 120fps motion output and sub-100ms end-to-end latency, making it suitable for live previews, live drives, interactions and acquisition inspections. HPE is a post-harvest high-precision processing pipeline suitable for research, training data production, key shots and projects requiring higher quality keypoint results.

ProductsIndustriesWorkflow

Can Semcam Live be used with Goku?

Yes. Semcam Live is responsible for unmarked human motion, and Goku is responsible for rigid body objects such as robot joints, end effectors, tools, props, handles, training equipment, rackets, drones, and cameras. Both share the coordinate system, timeline, and project in Active Center.

IndustriesData Output

Which analysis workflows are supported for life sciences and university labs?

It can be connected to OpenSim, Visual3D, C3D, mainstream force plate, electromyography and pressure platform processes, and can be extended with index calculation, action quality evaluation and data export through Semcam Biomechanics Plugin and Semcam Action Quality Assessment Plugin.
